Lab Assistant

Description: University of California, Davis is at present looking to employ Lab Assistant right now, this vacancy will be placed in California. Participate in the establishment and routine monitoring of native wildflower restorat! ions designed to bolster pollinators and pollination service. Collect vegetation data within experimental plots. Observe and collect native bee and other insect visitors on wildflower plantings and crops. Perform specimen curation and data entry.
Physical Demands:
Bend and stoop to hoe, weed and irrigate plots.
Maneuver/lift material weighing up to 50 lbs.
Sit or stand for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Work in proximity to all kinds of plant materials and insects.
Must not be allergic to bees.
Work in the field in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.
Use own transportation to travel to field sites.
Background Check Required:
This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of conserv! ation biology, pollination biology, entomology and/or field ecology acquired through related coursework.
Computer skills (Word and Excel) to collect data, perform data entry, maintain data and generate reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
Field experience with insect biology, particularly native bees.
Experience with insect curation (pinning, labeling).
