This position contributes to Starbucks success by guiding the strategic direction of global Payroll Operations and setting worldwide standards for the payroll function. In addition, this individual will direct the daily US and Canada payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payroll payments to partners and payroll-related payments to third-party agencies. Through building strong relationships across PRO(HR), Starbucks Technology, and the many cross-functional stakeholders of payroll systems and programs , this role will lead a cross functional, multi-year payroll cloud implementation and transformation serving as a “change agent” for the payroll department and key stakeholders to lead best practices, modernization, standardization and efficiencies. This payroll leader will also ensure that his/her team is responsive, employs discipline in the areas of controls and accuracy, and is able to gain operational efficiencies wherever possible.
As a Director Global Payroll you will…
- Set departmental goals, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together
- Support the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company
- Plan and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
- Consult closely with international business leaders and regional partner resource heads to establish payroll approach and programs and ensures alignment with overall company policies, programs and business objectives..
- Lead new projects and programs including a cloud payroll implementation
- Ensures that partners within 50 states in the U.S., the District of Columbia and all Canadian provinces where Starbucks does business are paid accurately and in a timely manner, and that payroll taxes and returns are filed with government agencies on time.
- Develops annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.
- Serves as an internal consultant and acts as an advisor to internal departments on compliance and technical issues involving complex domestic and international payrolls, payroll taxes, benefits, labor laws, and payroll/payroll tax responsibilities associated with mergers and acquisitions.
- Oversees process improvements to ensure efficient and accurate payroll processing, payroll tax reporting, payroll accounting and record retention.
- Provide partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and build effective teams order to achieve partners, business and customer results
- Lead a team that always puts our partners first in our strategy, problem solving and solutions
We’d love to hear from people with:
- Management of multi-state, multi-entity and multi-country payroll department - 10 years
- Executing large-scale business operations and technology projects - 8 years
- Payroll system evaluation and implementation
- Progressive experience managing varied multi-state, multi-entity and multi-country payroll systems
- Managing and developing others - 5 years
- process improvement and project management - 7 years
- Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interface at the highest levels within an organization
- Solid tactical and strategic skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of partners
- Strong understanding of FLSA and Wage and Hour requirements
- Ability to present a business case for change to senior management
- Strong analytical and financial analysis skills
- Knowledge of standard payroll systems, specifically SAP/SuccessFactors
- Knowledge of and ability to manage third party vendors related to pay services
- Ability to lead program and project efforts to completion
