Your internship project
As an intern you are responsible for the early-stage research on a recombinant viral vector-based vaccine platform. The project will contain the production of recombinant viruses and screen for suitable vaccine candidates. Also, it should be able to differentiate between the vaccine candidate and the natural virus infection (DIVA principle), which will be a part of the research project. The student will be responsible to design, rescue and test these vaccine candidates in an in-vitro system. Based on those results the vaccine candidates will be selected for in-vivo studies.

This provides you with the opportunity to learn and hereafter perform tasks independently. In consultation with your supervisor, you could take on additional tasks and responsibilities.
Who are you?
- A final year B.Sc or M.Sc student in the field of Life Sciences
- You are familiar with Vaccines and viruses
- You are enthusiastic about learning new things (be curious)
- You are searching for an internship where you have the freedom to take initiative
- You are fluent in English and/or Dutch
- You are available for a period of 6-9 months for 5 days a week.

The D&T department perform early-stage research on new vaccine technologies including, but not only, viral (vector) vaccines, virus discovery, cell-line technologies, immunology, vaccine formulation, vaccine analysis technologies, etc. The current student project is in the team of Martijn Langereis who is responsible for molecular virology projects including viral (vector) vaccines. You will work together with a technician who gained a lot of experience in the field of virology and vaccine design. Together with Martijn and the technician you will have weekly meetings to discuss the progress of the project. Together we can make this project a success.
