Program/Position Identification
The Cooperative Agricultural Support S! ervices(CASS) is a Joint Powers Authority that assists in protecting and supporting California's agricultural industry and its consumer products by providing services and staff who fairly, impartially, and dependably carry out their work.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
Under direction of a designated supervisor, as well as operating within established guidelines and procedures, responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, thefollowing:
1. SampleProcessing-
Process plant and arthropod samples. Techniques may include,but not belimited to: loading and cutting up citrus leaf petioles or bark or loading intact insects into 96-well plates while entering the associated data into SampleWare; extracting insect samplesfrom stickytraps, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extraction; and performing quantitative PCR.
3. Lab cleanliness/miscellaneous-
Heat sterilizes sample/laboratorywaste using high-pressure autoclave.
Clean l! aboratory utensils and maintains clean laboratory standards.
Work Environment
The incumbent works in the laboratory of the Citrus Research Board/Citrus Riverside. Computers are present in all; laboratory spaces for data entry and instrument operation.
INDIVIDUALREQUIREMENTS
The incumbent in this position must have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Completion of 10 or more credit hours of undergraduate life sciences is required. The incumbent in this position must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships; work well under pressure;work independently; and,work cooperatively with other staff members in completing assigned work and meeting required deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS
The incumbent in this position will be required, with or without reasonable accommodation, to operate a desktop or laptop computer using a keyboard and mouse; operate var! ious types of laboratory scientific equipment; handle plant and insect specimens ;employ repetitive arm and wrist motions; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist, reach; and, occasionally lift equipment and related supplies weighing up to twenty five pounds. . ....
