The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist is responsible for leading the environmental regulatory programs at the Los Angeles Plant and serves as the environmental contact for site management. Under general supervision, this individual pr! ovides leadership and technical guidance to management and emp! loyees for the establishment and maintenance of robust processes to identify, evaluate, and control risk to the environment. This individual is responsible for supporting and validating the effectiveness of the environmental management system (ISO 14001) and champion sustainability efforts at the site.

The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist provides technical leadership in the areas of environmental compliance for site personnel. This individual evaluates, plans, and implements comprehensive environmental compliance programs under general supervision. This individual will lead projects requiring advanced knowledge of Federal, California and Los Angeles County/City environmental regulations from identification of potential risk, to analysis of the level of risk to the implementation of appropriate control measures.

The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist develops and/or delivers technical training and environmental awareness programs in support of compan! y’s hazard/risk profile. This individual will assure the development of an approach to environmental management issues consistent with regulatory requirements, ISO 14001, and J&J policy. This individual will monitor the progress of management action plans associated with the site and with possible external innovation opportunities by providing leadership, technical support and professional expertise to ensure corporate, business franchise and site goals are met. In addition, this individual will participate and assist in the coordination of site behavior base program.

The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist participates on audits, performs inspections of site to identify and correct any deficiencies related to environmental protection (e.g., housekeeping) and participates in Johnson & Johnson's internal audit process (MAARS), as related to environmental compliance and environmental management system. This individual performs annual self-assessments for environme! ntal related chapters of MAARS, participates on triennial joint MAARS a! ssessment of site, and participates on regional and global project teams with peers as directed. In addition, this individual will lead ISO 14001 Internal Audits.

The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist will develop and implement annual environmental metrics. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing an Environmental Strategy based on risk and incident trend analysis. This individual will be responsible for executing permit compliance for all Air, Wastewater, Stormwater, and Waste Treatment permits, including reviewing and maintaining all relevant Regulatory Plans in support of Environmental rules and regulations (SPCC, HMBP, SWPPP, etc).

The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist will review and approve all new processes and equipment to ensure they meet regulatory and J&J Standards. This individual will lead key EHS&S projects for improvement of the overall EHS&S Systems in demonstrating compliance with EHS&S regulations and J&J sta! ndards. The Staff EHS&S Environmental Specialist will assist in the mitigation of identified EHS&S Defects through the Zero Defect Program. This position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires 10% domestic and international travel.

Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelors degree is required. A focused degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental management or related discipline is highly preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience required and in a GMP environment is preferred. An advanced degree is preferred. A Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred. Current knowledge of applicable government environmental and safety regulations (SCAQMD, DTSC, CUPA, County of LA, and City of LA) is preferred with knowledge of Federal environmental and safety regulations required. Experience working with EHS&S data reporting and tracking systems is preferred. Experience developing EHS&S environmental programs including! technical knowledge of environmental programs is required. Experience ! in identifying, evaluating and controlling EHS&S risk in the workplace is required.

Excellent influencing, planning, organizational and time management skills are required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The ability to work in a team environment is required. This position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires 10% domestic and international travel.
