The Distribution Manager is responsible for managing the distribution operations and functions for the company, reporting directly to the VP Operations. This role establishes warehouse faci! lity policies and procedures, ensuring the safe and efficient storage and distribution of goods. The Distribution Manager will also oversee coordination of freight, logistics as well as importation or exportation of incoming and outgoing products. The ideal candidate has a clear understanding of the entire supply and distribution chains in order to co-ordinate them effectively and liaise with suppliers of raw materials, co-packers, distributors, retailers and consumers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervise a staff of approximately 10 warehouse and web fulfillment employees.
Hire, lead, coach, enforce, empower and direct hourly warehouse employees to perform and achieve in line with Company values and strategy, and department goals adhering to Human Resources processes and policies.
Manage day-to-day operations of Warehouse, Logistics, and Web Fulfillment, interacting with other department managers, the procurement team, the sales team, productio! n facility and order processing.
Develop and implemen! t a logistics process.
Coordinate with Production and Procurement teams to ensure product fulfillment requirements and timely product delivery.
Perform daily reconciliation of packaged product transfers in and out of the warehouse through a daily inventory program.
Ensure warehouse facilities meet government standards and adhere to company and safety policies.
Recommend and implement strategies to continually improve shipping efficiency, carbon footprint and cost; research and secure best freight rates for incoming and outgoing goods.
Oversee warehouse space allocation of raw materials, components and finished goods to maximize the efficient use of warehouse space.
ACTIVITIES/DUTIES
Oversee the transportation of goods from production site to consumer/client.
Liaise with customers, suppliers and transport companies to ensure that a premium level of customer service is always present.
Implement a! nd maintain budget measured by controlling costs.
Compile accurate and complete inventory reports; oversee periodic physical inventory and cycle count programs.
Review and approve purchase order requests for distribution department.
Coordinate the efficient shipment of finished products for Nutiva delivered customers, and for FOB pickups at Nutiva warehouses.
Ascertain how much freight to place on shipments.
Devise routes for shipments.
Monitor progress of major shipments to ensure receipt.
Liaise with co-packing facilities to ensure prompt and efficient flow of finished goods to Nutiva warehouses.
Confirm goods are stored and rotated properly, per health and safety standards, best by product dating and at the right environmental conditions.
Coordinate planning of inventories to create cohesive activities to minimize losses.
QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of distribution/fulfillment ! experience which includes supervisory responsibility in a food manufact! uring environment.
BS/BA degree in a technical field, logistics management or equivalent experience.
Must be a hands-on manager who interacts with other employees and departments to assuring the goals and objective are being attained within the distribution division.
Broad knowledge of sales management and distribution practices and trends.
Familiar with OSHA, HACCP and Organic regulations.
Commitment to superior customer service.
Open to new ideas, technology and change.
Team player.
Proven leadership and management skills.
Well-organized with ability to multitask.
Excellent analytical and computer skills including MS Office and CRM (Great Plains preferred).
Good trouble shooter.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Can lift 55 lbs.
Can work more than 40 hours per week when needed.
