Position Description
The purpose of Counseling Services is to help students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and well-being by providing timely and appropriate professional mental health, outreach, educational services, and campus consultations. Individual, couples, and group counseling: Provide brief counseling and psychotherapy to students on a variety of personal, p! sychological, educational and/or developmental matters and or ! problems; Responsible for case management to include an analysis and synthesis of psychological data concerning client; Assist the client in identifying presenting problem, defining target/goal, and working toward a solution; Determine if a referral to an appropriate individual or agency is needed and assist client in referral process; Consult with appropriate personnel as needed; and Organize and conducts group counseling sessions. Campus Outreach and Consultation: Prepare and present prevention education and outreach programming to campus departments and offices; Assist in Counseling Services' departmental program planning; and Serve as liaison as assigned, develop written materials and programs. Supervision and Training: As assigned, supervise and assist in the training of pre-doctoral interns. Other Functions: Attend Counseling Services' and other departmental meetings.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only)
Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills
Doctorate degree in psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) Licensed to practice in the State of California as a psychologist, LCSW or LMFT, or eligible for licensure as a psychologist, LCSW or LMFT within two years of initial hire into the SSP-AR classification. Possess generalist skills; ability to diagnose and provide brief treatment, crisis intervention, individual, couples and group counseling. Ability to speak publicly; proactively and independently organize, develop and conduct educational programs on a variety of topics; represent Counseling Services to the campus; demonstrate multicultural competence; demonstrate expertise in addressing the needs of students of color and other under-served groups. Good written, language and conceptual skills. Good time management skills. Ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team. Ability to actively contribute to a positive working environment by exhibiting solution-focused, positive, cooperative and flexible behavior.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills
Preference given to app! licants completing an APA-approved or APPIC member doctoral internship. Preference given to holder of current California psychologist, LCSW, or MFT license. Preference given to applicants with training and experience in treating disordered eating. Preference given to applicants with experience in providing outreach and psychotherapy to under-represented students.

Counseling Services is part of Health ! and Counseling Services and offers brief therapy and crisis interventio! n services to the campus both in-house and through outreach. We have seven full-time mental health professionals and three doctoral interns on staff. We are accredited by IACS and member of APPIC.
