DUTIES

Essential Job Duties:
Greeting patients when they enter a medical office. Medical office receptionists also answer telephones, and respond to and send faxes. Receptionists gather information from patients upon patients' arrival by having them fill out forms. Many times, all incoming and outgoing mail is a responsibility front office. In addition to scheduling clients for upcoming doctor visits, medical front office might also receive patient payments, record them in a database and provide receipts to patients.

Assist in preparation of patients for treatment under the direction of the medical staff. Also can, performs therapy by standards of the treating doctors. May be responsible for operation and maintenance of equipment. Prepares and sanitizes treatment room for the patients. Helps maintain the medical records of the client and perform various clerical duties. Greets the patients and schedules appointments. Computer work.

Position Requirements

Possesses knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Position reports to a supervisor.

Communication requirement:
Writing,speaking, hearing, and dealing with the public. Electronic communications via computers, printers, interfaces, and fax machines are utilized in this job role. Inter-relationships define the broad level of communication needs involved in these technical responsibilities.

Cognitive requirement:
Include reading, writing, simple arithmetic, math reasoning, weighing, measuring, and analyzing data and report information. Judgment and actions required of the Medical Assistant in performing and reporting analyses under supervision could result in decisions regarding management.

Physical Requirements:
Major activities of this job include frequent walking, standing, and light physical effort performed on a level surface. Some carrying, lifting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and squatting are involved in the medical office. Testing procedures require the Medical Assistant to use a computer and telephone and employ writing and organizational skills. Manual dexterity, mobility, good vision and hearing that includes near acuity, depth perception and accommodation are physical requirements necessary for test performance and close technical work Job duties requires a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting up to max 50 lbs Job duties requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination Job duties requires vision and hearing corrected within normal range, depth perception for test performance and close technical work Job duties require an employee to be able to climb stairs, bend and/or stand for extended periods Job Duties requires an employee to work under fast paces demanding conditions Trunk Strength - The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing. Job duties requires an employee to work under fast paced demanding conditions Ability to work flexible schedule flexible hours/overtime without restrictions when required

Working environment/safety: The medical assistant work environment is indoors in an office/clinical setting. There are mechanical, electrical, chemical, and infectious material hazards in existence.

Infectious materials:
Hazards involve regular exposure to diseasebearing specimens, body fluids, wastes and risk of bloodborne disease. Electrical and mechanical hazards exist in areas of equipment use. Laboratory testing procedures may expose the Medical Assistant to some odorous chemicals and specimens. Phlebotomy procedures require contact with patients under a widevariety of circumstances and conditions. The work environment in the medical office is subjectto frequent interruptions and at times, irregular hours.

Safety for the Medical MA is provided in the form of personal protective equipment and barrier precautions. Gloves face shields, goggles, fluid resistant lab coats and manual pipetting devices are used. Additionally, adequate lighting, ventilation, adjustable work surfaces, sufficiently located utilities and area security are present in the medical office.
