Research Associate III - Neurosciences

Location: Los Angeles California

Description: Cedars-Sinai is currently seeking to employ Research Associate III - Neurosciences right now, this position will be placed in California. Under general supervision of Principal Investigator, candidate will perform routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develop techni! cal expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects.

The Research Associate III will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research processes, to include, but not limited to: investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings.

The Research Associate III will observe and comply with safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance. Troubleshoot and perform experiments using general laboratory techniques of cell biology (e.g. cell culture), molecular biology (e.g. RNA protein isolation and quantification, PCR, RT-PCR), and analytical (e.g. immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting [western blot, FACS and ELISA]) methods. Conduct animal studies involving mice and rats. Provide administrative and managerial supply oversight for the laboratory.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor of Science or Arts degree with a major in biology, neuroscience, or behavioral neuroscience.

Experience:
A minimum three years background and technical training in neuroscience and/or cell pathology is required, preferably including Western blotting experience and postmortem Alzheimer’s disease research.

Must have three years laboratory experience in paraffin block sectioning, ribonuclear protein staining, antibody specificity testing, antigen retrieval, bright-field immunohistochemistry, triple-label immunofluorescence, computer-assisted imaging, photomontage construction, and quantification of immunoreactivity in large data sets on human and mouse tissue.

Must be proficient in Excel, Image J, ImagePro Plus, PowerPoint, and statistical software. Ability to use FARSIGHT and Nuance imaging tool kits is desirable. Shows theoretical and technical understanding of the PI’s resea! rch objectives, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational and presentation skills (both oral and written), and an ability to research, develop, and implement new laboratory protocols.

Must have a work history demonstrating high motivation regarding laboratory goals, quick learning of new procedures, work completed in a timely fashion with minimal supervision, contribution of text and figures to research publications, and easy, respectful interaction with coworkers and supervisors.

Physical Demands:
Position requires working with microscopes and computers for extended periods of time and the use of specialized laboratory equipment. Must be able to sit, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
