Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures. Examines patients to determine nature of condition utilizing dental ra! diographs, dental instruments, and other diagnostic procedures.
The patient population make-up for the Pediatric Dentist will consist primarily of children 0 to 12 years of age.
Essential Functions of the Job
1. Coordinates the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company, state and federal agencies.
2. Consults with the patients and advises them of their dental status, prescribes the treatment required, provides risks and alternatives and documents according to department, company, state and federal agency guidelines.
3. Cleans, restores, extracts, and replaces teeth, using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical equipment.
4. Treats soft hard tissues diseases of the oral cavity; performs surgery on oral tissues when necessary; renders prosthetic treatment when approved and indicated; designs and places orthodontic devices to correct minor malo! cclusion of teeth and renders any and all dental services to r! estore the oral health of the patient.
5. Provides preventive dental services to patient, such as applications of fluoride and sealants to teeth, and provides education in oral health and dental hygiene.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
1. Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
2. While adhering to providing high quality dental services, the provider is encouraged to obtain 18 patient encounters per day on a monthly average.
3. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
4. May be asked to work with Residency programs as an Attending and may need to rotate to off locations to participate in said programs. Participation may include performing Teaching duties, oversee Oral Conscious Sedation and/or O! perating Room patient care.
5. Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Job Requirements
Education:
- Required: D.D.S. or DDM Graduate from accredited school of Dentistry.
- Required: Completion of a US accredited Pediatric Residency Program.
- Required: Current License to practice Dentistry in the State of California
- Required: Current DEA License
- Required: Current CPR certificate
- Required: Pediatric Residency Program Certificate
- Preferred: Pediatric Dentist Board Certification preferred
- Required: 2 years of experience as a Dentist.
- Required: Previous experience supervising dental assistant(s).
- Preferred: E xperience as a Pediatric Dentist preferred
- Required: Excellent writte! n and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred: Bilingual in language common to San Diego area.
Patience and understanding toward patients. Computer skills involving word processing, email, and dental management programs such as Dentrix are preferable.
Equipment Used :
Dental operatory equipment, laboratory, sterilization equipment and front office equipment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements :
Mostly sitting position while bending forward to treat patients. May be required to work some evenings and/or Saturdays.
